The first communist Ministry of Kerala is the setting of the movie as it prepares to be ousted in 1959 after less than two years in power. A student named Jayan develops a great friendship with the tailor, Bhasi, who is a fervent Communist Party supporter. Father of Jayan is a staunch supporter of the Congress party.NLNLAs Jayan's understanding grew, he began to see how Bhasi and his loved ones always live in terror of being wiped off by Congress goons and upper castes who appear to usurp authority through violent means. Jayan is able to make sense of things because to his close relationship with Dr. Tharakan, a sort of scientist who believes in the hypothesis of an imminent apocalypse.
