In Rural Bihar, a ruthless landlord has been exploiting and wrecking havoc in the lives of the villagers. He ends up killing the intelligent and kind school master who was a force to reckon with among the villagers. Hearing this news a laborer named Naurangia is furious and in despair. He avenges the death of the schoolmaster by killing the landlord’s brother in rage. Naurangia and his wife Rama then escape in the night and become fugitives as the entire village is hunting for them. Meanwhile Rama comes to know that she is expecting a baby but has to keep moving. They find it difficult to sustain and decide to return back however due to lack of money they are helpless.
To earn the fare back to their village, the couple must drive a heard a pigs through a river. They find it hard and struggle and Rama realizes she might have lost her baby in the bargain. Turns out the baby is still alive and doing fine, and they have safely crossed the river. The film is directed by Gautam Ghosh and produced by Swapan Sarkar. The music is composed by Gautam Ghosh. The star cast includes Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Shabana Azmi, Mohan Agashe, Utpal Dutt, Anil Chatterjee and Ruma Devi.
