Northern Kerala's Kolathiri Raja is a successful king. Prince Devan, Raja's elder nephew, lacks Prince Udayan's good looks, bravery, and intelligence. According to matrilineal customs, the King appointed Udayan as his heir apparent and married his daughter Princess Parvathi, who was much in love with Udayan. Devan's secret desire to wed Parvathi has been destroyed by this.Udayan's accession, on the other hand, infuriated two court nobles, Kammaran and Perumana Kuruppu. Kammaran pitted Prince Devan against Prince Udayan in an effort to capitalize on Devan's annoyance. For this, Kammaran staged a royal pardon using Kompan, a dacoit commander who conducted frequent raids in numerous villages, and sought Prince Udayan's presence in his scheme.
