Mangal Singh (Amjad Khan) is a notorious Dacoit, his wife is about to give birth to his son when DSP Shamsher Singh captures him. Mangal Singh takes a promise from the DSP that he will look after his son till he is freed from the prison. The DSP has his own son Kishen (Vinod Khanna) who is wicked. Amit (Amitabh Bachchan) who is the dacoit’s son is very kind hearted and honest.
Mangal Singh is released from jail after 14 years and mistakes his son to be Kishan, instigates him against his own family, joins the underworld. On the other side Amit becomes an honest police officer, has the responsibility of catching the gang. In the end Amit and Kishen find out about the truth of their lives. Kishen changes for the better.
