Piroj Shah and Pestonjee are close friends and do everything together. Piroj is an introvert and sensitive, while Pestonjee is an extrovert. They love to be together even though they have very different personalities. When Phiroj is confused on marrying Jeroo, it is Pestonjee(Pesi) who falls in love with her and marries her ultimately. Phiroj then ends up moving to another city. Later he comes to know that Jeroo is expecting her first child and goes to visit them. It is then he comes to know that Pesi and his wife have an a miscarriage earlier and are unhappy in their marriage. She has completely changed and is not the attractive and kind woman she used to be.
Things take a drastic turn with the death of Pesi and his mistress Soona pays for the funeral, but Piroj pays her back. It is then that he realizes life is different and not what he imagined it to be. The film is directed and produced by Vijaya Mehta. The music is composed by Vanraj Bhatia and the screenplay is by B K Karanjia and Vijaya Mehta. The star cast includes Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher, Shabana Azmi, Kiran Thakur Singh, Chandu Parkhi, Farrokh Mehta, Dady Sarkari and Cyrus Dustoor.
