Janaki, played by Smita Patil, lives in the slums with her siblings and alcoholic father who hardly acres about them. She is now left with the sole responsibility of earning the means of livelihood for the entire family. Janaki is hard working and determined to take care of her siblings in spite of the struggles and hardships that come her way. A difficult journey for a young girl, but Janaki is brave and become tough seeing immense challenges very early on in her life.
Janaki’s world is only centered around doing odd jobs and earning for her family and caring for her siblings. She has hardly ever focused on anything else. Her friend, played by Aruna Irani gets a chance to meet Amitabh Bachchan on set and is excited. However, one day all that changes when she meets a dashing young man. They start to get attracted to each other and one day eventually fall in love. Little does she know that her world is going to be in even more trouble because of this alliance.
The movie is directed by Durai and produced by Mrs. G Lalitha. The music is composed by Bappi Lahiri. The star cast includes Raj Babbar, Smita Patil, Tanuja, Sulbha Despande, Mehmood, Amitabh Bachchan, Moushmi Chatterjee, Aruna Irani, Vinod Mehra and Amjad Khan.
