Vishwas, played by Shahid Kapoor, is the only son of widow Savitri, played by Padmini Kolhapure who hopes he becomes a police officer. But Vishwas’s real ambition is to be a film star. On a film set one day, dressed as a police officer, Vishwas helps a social worker named Kajal, played by Illeana D’Cruz, who mistakes him for a real cop. His picture is then splashed over the newspapers and his mother catches a glimpse and is elated to think that her son has finally fulfilled her wishes.
Savitri goes to Mumbai to congratulate her son but not wanting to disappoint his mother, Vishwas plays along. He even fools Kajal into thinking he’s a real cop. During one of his film’s shoot, his mother finally understands that he was lying and she falls unconscious. She is then hospitalized, where the doctor recommends an operation, which will cost around Rs 10 Lakhs. Unable to get so much money on his own, Vishwas joins the gang of a mafia called Gundappa.
Kajal tries to make Vishwas stop doing these crimes and goes to Gundappas den and tells him she has come to marry Vishwas. Meanwhile the Joint Commissioner tells Savitri that her son is working for the police and she tells the same to Kajal. They go to apologize but get trapped by Napoleon, who is Gundappa’s boss. Vishawas manages to rescue his mother and Kajal and the commissioner makes him a real officer seeing his bravery.
The movie is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Ramesh Taurani. The music of the movie is composed by Pritam.
