Puro, played by Urmila Matondkar lives with her parents and sister. One day when is out with her sister, she gets abducted by a man named Rashid, played by Manoj Bajpayee. Turns out that his family has a feud going on with Puro’s family and to settle scores he has kidnapped her. Rashid however is besotted by Puro and isn’t able to cause her any harm. She manages to escape one night and returns home only to be turned away. Her parents reason that if she lives with them their entire will get killed. Having no other choice she returns to Rashid who was aware she would return.

 

Puro’s younger sister is married off into Ramchand’s family while Rashid marries Puro. Puro then becomes pregnant but suffers a miscarriage. Meanwhile riots break out when the British leave India. One by one Ramchand’s family leaves but unfortunately Lajjo is kidnapped by one of the rioters. Puro comes to her rescue and with the help of Rashid helps her escape. This brings Puro close to Rashid as she realizes how much he cares about her and her family. Puro’s family meets her at Lahore and tells her she is free to start her life over. Rashid understands and walks away. Puro however, accepts her life just the way it is and calls out to Rashid and bids her family goodbye.

 

The movie is directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi and produced by 20th Century Fox. The music is composed by Uttam Singh.
