Ponga Pandit is a film produced in the year 1975 by Surrender Kapoor and directed by Prayag Raj. The film stars Randhir Kapoor, Neeta Mehta, Danny Denzongpa, Nirupa Roy, Madan Puri, Shreeram Lagoo and Ranjeet. Music is by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
Neelkanth Pandey and Shambu Nath are friends and decide that their children should get married, Bhagwanti Prasad (Randhir Kapoor) and Parvati (Neeta Mehta) respectively who are still very young. Shambhu Nath relocated to Bombay(Mumbai) while Neelkanth Pandey continues to live in the same residence.
Years later both children grow up and Neelkanth invites Shambu Nath to finalise their promise to each other of marrying their children. However, Shambu Nath is now a rich man and Neelkanth Pandey faces humiliation by the Naths as Parvati who now calls herself Pamela . He wants his daughter to marry a rich sophisticated and educated. Pamela( Neeta Mehta) is in love with the singer Rocky. Bhagwanti decides to take it up as a challenge on himself to woo back his childhood sweetheart and keep up to his father’s wish of him marrying her. He moves to Mumbai and between lot of emotional moments, some hilarious moments as he is a village bumpkin in a modern society and how he woos her back that will change their lives forever.
