Sunder, played by Govinda, comes from a village to the city to start a lucrative life for himself. He is however, illiterate and timid and thus is mocked and bullied by many he meets. He tries to talk to girls, but the results are disastrous and he ends up being humiliated. All that changes when he happens to meet Payal Khurana, played by Rani Mukerji, who is an educated and compassionate NRI girl. She assumes that Sunder is mentally disabled as well as speech impaired. She thus feels sympathetic towards him and starts to help him out.
Sunder who has managed to fool Payal into thinking he cannot speak, seems to enjoy all the attention he gets from her. He thinks that she only feels sorry for him but does not love him. However Sunder is wrong, as Payal has started having feelings for him. She arranges Sunder to meet her parents. A guilty Sunder decides not to fool Payal anymore and cuts off his tongue to never speak again. The movie is directed by Kirti Kumar and produced by R.B Choudary. The music is composed by Uttam Singh. The star cast includes Om Puri, Deepak Tijori, Laxmikant Berde, Kishore Bhanushali, Johnny Lever, Navin Nischol, Pramod Moutho, Makrand Deshpande, Razak Khan, Apoorva Agnihotri, Farida Jalal, Smita Jayakar, Shubha Khote and Guddi Maruti.
