Madhavi and Girish fall in love and get married. They live a blissful life but are unable to bear children for 10 years. After 10 years however, Madhavi finally finds out that she is expecting. She is overjoyed by the news but their happiness doesn’t last very long as on the way to the hospital Madhavi has a horrible accident and loses her child. Madhavi and Girish are devastated by the news. Soon Girish’s only brother Rajesh gets married to Priya. Their life too begins with bliss but soon tragedy strikes. Priya loses her sanity.
Soon Madhavi is advised by the doctor to try for another child and to their surprise she conceives a child. Madhavi feels sorry for Priya and decides to give her child to Priya so she can get back her sanity and become normal again. The film is directed by K C Agarwal and is produced by Shamshad Khan. The music is composed by Hirdayanath Mangeshkar. The story is written by Madhusudhan Kalekar. The screenplay and dialogue is written by Anil Kalekar. The star cast includes Girish Karnad, Kanwaljit Singh, Nutan, Rameshwari, Jagdeep, Ram Mohan, Bhagwan, Mukri, Om Shivpuri, Iftekhar and Lalita Pawar.
