Rani, played by Kangana Ranaut is an introverted Punjabi girl living in Delhi with her parents and younger brother. She meets Vijay, Rajkummar Rao who is settled in London and they both fall in love. He asks her to marry him and her parents do all the arrangements and are excited. One day before her marriage Vijay calls off the wedding citing cultural and lifestyle differences. He mocks and humiliates Rani on he could never marry a girl like her. Heartbroken Rani locks herself in her room and cries all night and falls asleep.
In the morning she wakes up and tells her parents that she has her honeymoon tickets to Paris and Amsterdam and wants to go there alone. Her parents are worried that she might be doing this out of frustration but she calmly explains to them that she needs a break from it all and go on a vacation. Next day she flies off to Paris but reluctantly and scared, as she has never been out of India before.
In Paris she meets Vijayalaxmi who works as a waitress in the hotel Rani is staying and they become good friends. She shows Rani around and they have a good time. Rani bids her farewell and goes to Amsterdam alone. There, she is shocked to know that her hotel room is shared by 3 other boys of different nationalities, but having no other hotel room available she stays there. They all becomes good friends. All this while Rani realizes that Vijay and her were never meant to be together as he didn’t love her for who she is. Unexpectedly one day Vijay turns up and tells her that he made a mistake but she out rightly rejects him and goes away smiling.
The movie is directed by Vikas Bahl and produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Madhu Mantena. The music is composed by Amit Trivedi.
