Kothas have been a huge part of Mumbai centuries ago but now it’s a dying tradition. The art of singing and dancing was popular in the city but now there are few places that are true to this tradition. The movie is set against the kothas backdrop and the people who still make a living and working here. Chandu, played by Paras Arora is a young Brahmin boy who has helped his team finally win a cricket match and is elated. To celebrate they decide to go to the kothas of Nagpada.
There in one of the kothas, Chandu lays eyes on Rajjo, played by Kangana Ranaut, who is a dancer. Her Mujra is so fascinating for Chandu, that he is besotted with her beyond words and cannot take his eyes off her. He falls head over heels in love with Rajjo. Chandu is an expert Harmonium player and Rajjo has been trained by Kothewali Amma, thus they both have a common love of music which binds them together. Eventually they both fall in love with each other.
The Nagpada area where the kotha is located has been given assigned redevelopment and thus the dancers and singers are at a huge risk of losing their means of living. There is also another hindrance in the form of Begum, played by Mahesh Manjrekar who runs the kotha and a influential politician Hande Bhau, played by Prakash Raj who also fancies Rajjo.
The movie is directed by Vishawas Patil and produced by Four Pillars Entertainment. The music is composed by Uttam Singh.
