Ganga lives a humble lifestyle with her brother Karam in Gangotri and is a happy-go-lucky girl. One day she meets Narendra who has come from Calcutta with his college friends on a college assignment. They instantly are attracted to each other and fall in love. On puran Mashi night the two lovers get married and get intimate. The next day however, Narendra has to leave but promises he will be back to take Ganga with him. Many months pass but he never shows up. Meanwhile Ganga is pregnant with his child and gives birth. She then decides to travel to Calcutta to find Narendra. One the way Ganga gets molested several times and finally gets tricked and lands up in a brothel. She is forced to stay there so as to provide for her child. Soon Bhagwat and Jeeva ask to bring her to Calcutta to be their mistress. Turns out, Jeeva is Narendra’s father and Bhagwat is his soon-to-be Radha’s brides father. She is then paid to perform at Radha and Narendra’s engagement. The latter recognizes her and breaks off all ties with his family and Radha and leaves with Ganga and his child. The film is directed by Raj Kapoor and produced by Ashok Kaul, Raj Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor. The music is composed by Ravindra Jain. The star cast includes Rajiv Kapoor, Saeed Jaffrey, Divya Rana, Mandakini, Raza Murad and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.
