Rang Rasiya is based on the true story of renowned painter Raja Ravi Varma. It is an adaption of the novel written by Marathi novelist Ranjit Desai on the famous painter. As a child the painter used to sketch his imaginations with charcoal on the walls of the palace of Kilimanoor. As a grown man, he started giving the Indian goddesses real faces, bodies and feelings.
Raja Ravi, played by Randeep Hooda was a brilliant painter and knew how to play around with colours to bring his vivid imaginations to life. His muse was Sugandha, played by Nandana Sen besots him in a way he has never experienced before. Even though he has made paintings of women earlier, he has never given such depth and sensuality to his paintings after she enters his life.
Some paintings seem questionable to the people who observe them, as it is the beauty that is portrayed of his muse through his eyes and mind. He expresses his vision of Sugandha in a very erotic way and she has reciprocates just the same.
Rang Rasiya is directed by Ketan Mehta and produced by Deepa Sahi, Aanand Mahendroo and Ketan Mehta. The music is composed by Sandesh Shandilya.
