“Rasavathi” is a 2024 Tamil romantic thriller film directed, written, and produced by Santhakumar. Arjun Das, Tanya Ravichandran, Reshma Venkatesh, and Sujith Shankar are playing lead roles in the film.
The film is set in the life of “Sadha Siva Pandian” (Arjun Das), a Siddha doctor with a dark past. He leads a serene life practicing his vintage healing techniques and helping needy people. All that changes, however, when he befriends “Soorya” (Tanya Ravichandran), a hotelier with her own painful past. Theirs grows stronger as their bond matures, love springs up between them, bringing with it the promise of healing for both.
As their affair gradually develops, there is a further presence surrounding them: a persistent police officer (Sujith Shankar), who is more interested in Sadha's past. As the officer's inquiry continues, revelations about the black past start surfacing, and Sadha is forced to experience again the trauma that he had tried to suppress all these years. The movie is interwoven with romance and an electrifying thriller, as Sadha's history collides with his present life, threatening his love and peaceful existence.
Santhakumar's storytelling gives each character depth and emotional weight, but at a more glacial pace in developing their background. Although this approach to storytelling makes Sadha's agony real, it keeps Soorya's character at arm's length, so the viewer feels she is less revealed although an important figure to the story. The love between Arjun Das and Tanya Ravichandran, however, is realistic, and their romance is engaging.
The yin yang in tone of close-up intimate rom coms to hard-boiled crime thriller in the movie is pulled off nicely. Suspense creeps slowly, and right before love, revenge and redemption collide together at climax. There is a great plot filled movie, reasonable performances and spine-tingling vibes in “Rasavathi” it is an emotional and high flying ride which goes on to captivate the audience till its last frame.
