“Rathnam” is a Tamil action drama film written and directed by Hari, starring Vishal. The film has a dual role of Priya Bhavani Shankar, supported by Samuthirakani and Gautham Vasudev Menon in important supporting roles. The story revolves around Rathnam's brutal life journey of a loyal henchman discovering his troubled past while shielding an innocent lady.

Rathnam is employed with MLA “Panneer Selvam” at Vellore and is popularly known as one who doesn't fear anything. His life is turned around when he rescues “Malliga”, a student of medicine, from the hands of cruel land grabber Beema Rayudu and his brothers. The brothers wish to appropriate Malliga's family property, but she refuses to sell and as a consequence faces constant attacks on her life. Rathnam not only protects her but also understands that she resembles his late mother, “Loganayagi”, strangely.

At Rathnam's insistence, Malliga eventually gives in to sell the land for a medical college. But trouble brews as Rathnam slays one of Beema Rayudu's brothers and promises to kill the remaining ones. Upon interrogation by Panneer Selvam, Rathnam unfolds a surprising truth: “Beema Rayudu brothers” are his mother's estranged relatives. Long ago, they were robbers. Loganayagi attempted to curb them, but they escaped. The police officer father of Rathnam also investigated their offence but was killed by them. Loganayagi, shamed and blamed by society, died after giving birth to Rathnam.

With the determination to get justice, “Rathnam” reunites with his estranged family and introduces Malliga to them. Beema Rayudu, however, strikes back, attacking brutally and killing some of Rathnam's family members. Angered, Rathnam kills Raghava Rayudu and beheads Beema Rayudu. He then surrenders to the police, accepting his destiny.

“Rathnam” is an engrossing action drama loaded with emotional depth and tough fight scenes. Vishal delivers a strong performance, bringing forth both the action hero and the emotional son. Director Hari keeps the interest levels high, blending high-octane action with family drama. The movie leaves one with a lasting impression with a mix of revenge, redemption, and raw emotions.
