Manzur Ahmed comes to East Pakistan after India’s partition in 1947. He has to make his way through road and reach Bhuj, where they meet a young man, played by Abhishek Bachchan, who calls himself the ‘refugee’. He merely takes the people as their customers and does not get emotionally involved with them in any way. He then happens to meet Manzur’s daughter Nazneen, played by Kareena Kapoor and falls in love with her beauty and innocence. The police on either side of the border have an idea of the illegal movement of refugees and keep questioning ‘Refugee’ and his father Jan Muhammad.
One day Refugee helps four men entre Delhi and they cause explosions in buses and trains in the Indian capital. Refugee is later arrested as he had unknowingly let terrorists enter the country and caused damage to life and property. He then makes up his mind to fight the terrorists and joins the BSF. Later he gets married to Nazneen and she gives birth to their child in between both borders.
The movie is directed, written and produced by J.P Dutta. The music is composed by Anu Malik and lurics are written by Javed Akhtar. The cinematography is by Bashir Ali and the choreography is by Ganesh Acharya, Saroj Khan, Habiba Rehman. The star cast includes Jackie Shroff, Sunil Shetty, Anupam Kher, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Sudesh Berry Shadab Khan, Avtar Gill, Ashish Vidyarthi, Mukesh Tiwari, Arif Zakeria, Vishwajeet Pradhan, Rajeev Goswami, Reena Roy and Padmini Kapila.
