Ram Avtar is gravely ill and as he knows he is not going to live for long, he wants someone to mourn for him. He appoints a famous Rudaali named Bhikni to come and mourn for him. She comes and lives with another woman named Sanichari and both become close. She tells Bhikni that her name was Sanichari as she was born on a Sanichar(Saturday), which is considered to be a unlucky day. Nothing goes right with her. Her father dies of a disease, mother runs away with a theatre group and husband later dies of illness. She is considered a bad omen, but is unable to shed a single tear. The Thakur’s son Lakshman, seems to like Sanchari and asks her to be more independent.
One day the news of Bhikni’s death comes to them. She succumbs to plague and leaves a message for Sanichari that she was her mother. Hearing this she starting weeping uncontrollably, which makes her the next Rudaali to take over from Bhikni. The film is directed by Kalpana Lajmi and produced by Ravi Gupta and Ravi Malik. The star cast includes Raj Babbar, Dimple Kapadia, Raghubir Yadav,Amjad Khan, Manohar Singh, Raakhee, Sushmeeta Mukherji and Mita Vashisht.
