Maria, played by Shehaaz Vahanvatty is hospitalized and is waiting for the doctor to operate on her. When the doctor does arrive, she pleads with him to wait until all her other friends arrive. Her friends include Anwar Ali, played by Amitabh Bachchan, Shakaram, played by Jalal Agha, Shubodh, played by Madhu, Mahadevan, played by Irshad Ali, Jogender, played by Utpal Dutt and Ram Bhagat, played by Anwar Ali. She has alredy sent out telegrams to them on her condition.
The Goa based Maria now reminisces the events that have happened in her life as a satyagrahi in the Goa liberation fight to force the Portuguese to finally quit and leave Goa. The hostility held by people of different castes, communities and religion against the other is wide spread and is also causing a rift between their group, as they all belong to different regions of India. Anwar from Bihar, Shakaram from Maharastra, Mahadevan from Tamil Nadu, Subodh from West Bengal, Jogender from Punjab and Ram from UP.
Their mission was to hoist the Indian flags by six of them in six different police stations and monuments in Goa. While they were almost successful, and even end up in custody, they get disturbing news that one of them have betrayed the rest.
The movie is written, directed and produced by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas. The movie’s music is composed by J.P Kaushik, Kaifi Azmi and Utpal Dutt.
