Set in the backdrop of the 1947 partition, Rajveer, played by Rishi Kapoor is married to Amrit, played by Rekha. They Have been living in Lahore but have to leave and come to Amritsar, Punjab. The couple find an abandoned little boy in the house that they stay in left by the previous owners. Amrit and Rajveer raise the child as their own and are very happy. The boy named Ishaan, grows up to be a Sikh by faith taught to him by his new parents. He is an obedient child and cares of his parents a lot. He happens to fall in love with a girl called Chandni, who is a Muslim. Ishaan proposes to her and meets her family who oppose the marriage saying that they will not marry off their daughter to a Sikh boy. Ishaan then tells them that he is actually of Muslim faith and is adopted by his new parents. Chandni’s parents go in search of his biological parents and find them. They eventually agree to the marriage.

 

Meanwhile Ishaan’s biological mother Benazir, played by Hema Malini and father come to claim their son back. Things that seemed to have started to settle, start getting complicated once again. The movie is directed and produced by Raj Kanwar. The music is composed by Adnan Sami.
