Akash, played by Pulkit Samrat is a hard working employee of a private firm in the city of Mumbai, but his life is slowly getting monotonous and empty. He gets the news of his grandfathers deteriorating health and goes to see him in his town in Tanakpur. There he remembers his old high school love Shruti, played by Yamini Gautam, who he left to pursue further studies.
He remembers the guilt, how foolish his action were as a young boy and goes on a mission to search for her. Meanwhile his boss gives him an ultimatum to get a deal of a huge contract or he will lose his job. He flies to Canada to meet the estranged wife of his company investor Mrs. Pablo, played by Urvashi Rautela. He befriends her and on the pretext of being in love with her tries to secure the deal. He happens to meet Shruti again and tries to apologize to her and rekindle their love, but after a few days of being friendly with him, Shruti bids him adieu.
Aakash now with the help of Mrs. Pablo goes in search of Shruti one last time to find why she left him. He soon learns that she has a rare heart disease and only a transplant can save her life. Aakash promises to make her alright, get married to her and give her all the happiness she deserves. He leaves for Mumbai on an important job. Shruti wakes up in the hospital fit and fine with a successful heart transplant and goes in search of Aakash, on reaching his house she has a shocking realization that it was his heart that she received and he is no more.
Sanam Re is directed by Divya Khosla Kumar and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Ajay Kapoor. The music is composed by Mithoon, Amaal Mallik, Epic Bhangra and Jeet Gannguli.
