Deendayal and his wife Godavari have three sons and a daughter all living together. The oldest son Vijay is married to Uma, Shiva gets married to Basanti, Rajni gets married to a Christian boy named Peter while the youngest son Vidyasagar is struggling with school. Rajni gets into a tiff with her husband and father-in-law a few months after marriage and returns home. Vijay meanwhile tells his mother that Uma is expecting and his family will be expanding thus he cannot contribute to the family funds anymore. Deendayal tells him that Shiva earns lesser than him yet gives the same amount. He asks Vijay to get out of the house. Vijay then argues and wants the 20,000 Rs he spent on Rajni’s wedding and then he will happily leave.

A devastated Deendayal takes voluntary retirement to collect his funds and works in two shifts to collect the money Vijay demanded. He then asks a line to be drawn in the center of the house and no one will cross it to go to Vijay’s side. Uma who has delivered a baby boy returns from her parent’s home to see the family divided and with help of the house maid and her mother-in-law brings the family back together.

The film is directed by Rama Rao Tatineni and produced by Rama Rao Tatineni. The music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal. The star cast includes Raj Babbar, Anupam Kher, Rekha, Shafi Inamder, Ajnkya Deo, Aruna Irani and Archana Joglekar.
