Anita Rajan, played by Aishwarya Rai is a CEO of a power plant based in London. She is ambitious and gets what she wants but with honesty. She holds a meeting with her father Mike, who is the chairman and Hassan, a business advisor and facilitator, to discuss a very impressive multi-million Dollar project to set up a power plant in the rural part of Maharahtra. Hassan deems this almost impossible due to the political complications, unless they take the help of Subhash Nagre aka Sarkar, played by Amitabh Bachchan, who is a criminal but looked up by many.
They approach the Chief Minister along with Sarkar to build the power plant. Sarkar refuses as this would affect the lives of more than 40,000 villagers. However Sankar, played by Abhishek Bachchan, Sarkar’s son makes him see how the plant will be beneficial to all. Sankar also warns Anita of Hassan, that he is not trustworthy and she should be careful. Meanwhile Shankar and Anita begin campaigning around to get public support for the power plant in Thackerwadi. Shankar’s wife who is pregnant is killed in a blast. On probing further it is revealed that Hassan was behind the blasts. Shankar shoots Hassan in his house, while Sarkar is admitted to hospital.
Meanwhile Mike comes to India and hatches a plan to get rid of Shankar as he wants development not profit. He is later shot by a sniper and he dies. Anita is then taken as Shankar’s replacement by Sarkar. The movie is directed by Ram Gopal Varma and produced by Praveen Nischol. The music is composed by Amar Molie.
