Ravidas is brought up in a humble household by his father Chediram. He has immense talent in poetry but cannot gain fame and success due to the life he is living in the village. He falls in love with Joyti, who incidentally belongs to a different caste. He and his father are ostracized from the community. Chediram cannot take this shame and commits suicide. Ravidas then decides to go to the city to fulfill his dreams of becoming successful and eventually marrying Jyoti. One day he rescues a lady’s purse from a thief. The lady happens to be the daughter of a newspaper owner. She tells his father about Ravidas and his poetry and he publishes it in his newspaper.
Soon Ravidas becomes famous and writes to Jyoti regularly on the side of the morning express train. She reads his messages and writes her replies. She is hopeful that one day they both will be together. The film is directed by Bharathi Raja and produced by R K Soral. The music is composed by R D Burman. The star cast includes Sunny Deol, Poonam Dhillon, Prem Chopra, Shreeram Lagu, Om Shivpuri, Satyen Kappu, C S Dubey, Kiran Vairale, Rakesh Bedi, Jankidas, Dharmendra, Natasha Sinha and Bindu.
