Seeta Aur Geeta a film directed by Ramesh Sippy, produced by G.P.Sippy starring Hema Malini in a dual role, Dharmnendra, Sanjeev Kumar, released on the 17th of November 1972.
The story is about identical twins Seeta/Geeta(Hema Malini) who are separated at birth. Seeta is raised by her cruel Aunt and uncle who treat her like a servant , despite the fact they live off her money inherited from her rich parents and live in her palatial home. Her only consolation is her grandmother on wheelchair who is also ill-treated. Unable to bear the atrocities by her aunt, she runs away from home to commit suicide but is saved and is mistaken for Geeta her twin sister ( Hema Malini) and is taken to Geeta’s home. Geeta who has been brought up in a poor neighbourhood has turned out to be street smart and bold and earns her livelihood by performing on the street with Raka(Dharmendra
Around the same time, Geeta has also run away from home and lands in Seeta’s place when her uncle and Aunt find her in the police station and mistake her for Seeta. With mistaken identity, Ravi(Sanjeev Kumar) falls in love with Geeta and Raka(Dharmendra) the street performer falls in love with Seeta who has landed in her place in their neighbourhood. Geeta being the bold and daring girl does not let the aunt carry on with her misdeeds and takes the reigns of the home the property and teaches the aunt a lesson for the harassment. She restores the dignity of the poor grandmother and brings back things in order. Ranjeet, the wicked aunt’s brother spots Seeta in the market place and discovers that the girls have exchanged places and wants to teach them a lesson. Ravi and Raka their lovers come to their rescue and all is well. The film ends on a happy note with Seeta marrying Ravi and Geeta falling in love with Raka and marrying him.
