Shaitan is the story of 5 unruly youngsters and their violent journey in the quest for fun. Amy, played by Kalki Koechlin has just returned from the US with disturbing visuals of her mother trying to commit suicide and now been institutionalized. She’s unhappy about how her family life has turned out and doesn’t like interacting much with people. Until, she meets KC, played by Gulshan Devaiya at a party and he introduces her to his other friends which include Dash, played by Shiv Pandit, Zubin, played by Neil Bhoopalam and Tanya, played by Kirti Kulhari.
The 6 friends have no goals and ambitions in life and live directionless. They waste their time and money drinking, partying, doing drugs and driving around the city aimlessly. On one of their carefree excursions in a Hummer, they run over two people on a scooter, who die instantly.
The friends panic on seeing the dead bodies and flee the crime scene. A vigilant and sly cop Malwankar, played by Rajkummar Rao traces them and questions them. When he sees them scared, he asks them to pay 25,00,000 to get out of the case without trouble. They hatch a plan to get this large amount of cash by faking Amy’s kidnapping and asking the ransom amount from her father. Her father instinctively calls the cop on receiving the call and a suspended cop Arvind, played by Rajeev Khandelwal is assigned to solve the case unofficially.
The group of friends get into more trouble where Tanya nearly gets raped, KC and Dash gets killed. Inspector Arvind then traces the corrupt cop Malwankar and brings the youngsters to justice. The movie is directed by Bejoy Nambiar and produced by Anurag Kashyap, Sunil Bohra, Guneet Monga and Meraj Shaikh. The music is composed by Prashant Pillai, Amar Mohile, Ranjit Barot and Anupam Roy.
