A social play called Shyam Saheb centres on Samuel Aratoon, an elderly man. He is a highly wealthy man who is addressed by his neighbours as Shaym sir because he owns a school. On the opposite side, Chandra, a free-spirited, modern woman, weds Santanu, a wealthy man.
