Vijay and Laxmi are happily married and have a blissful life. Laxmi is a singer and normally sings duets with another singer named Kumar. They instantly become a hit pair and sing several songs together. This however creates misunderstandings in the mind of her husband Vijay who suspects her of having an affair with Kumar. Laxmi is devastated at hearing this and leaves the house. Then Vijay comes to know that Kumar is getting married to another girl and how he was wrong about his wife. Laxmi however is nowhere to be found. Years pass and Vijay is now a college professor. Laxmi’s daughter Lalita studies in the same college and falls in love with Ravi. While singing a song at a college function Vijay completes the lyrics when she forgets and then tells her that it was also his wife’s favotite song.
Vijay then goes to Lalita’s house for tuitions and sees Laxmi in a widow’s avatar and is shocked. He quits his job and goes away. Then Laxmi confronts Vijay and tells him how she met Lalita and her father one day. Since her father passes away and entrusts her responsibility to her. So she begins to look after her as her mother. Lalita later misunderstands that her mother and prof. Vijay are having an affair but later learns the truth and asks her forgiveness. The film is directed by K Ravi Shankar and produced by A Krishnamurthy. The music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal. The star cast includes Shashi Kapoor, Govinda, Jeetendra, Rishi Kapoor, Neelam, Jayaprada, Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Asrani and Aruna Irani.
