Dharma Singh is a honest man who earns a merger living through farming. He is widowed and takes care of his two children Karan and Geeta by himself. He has a dream to make his son a diligent police inspector one day. However their happiness is short-lived when torrential rains ravage through their village and the family is separated. Geeta and Karan reach a town called Sitapur and the former takes up odd jobs for her brother to complete her further studies. Karan goes to study in the city and becomes a tough police inspector. He is then given the assignment of capturing some dreaded dacoits in the village.
Little does Karan know that he is going to be capturing his own sister Geeta who is now an outlaw and goes by the name Maut. His father Daku Dharam is also a dacoit and has wrecked havoc. Karan is now in a dilemma weather to join his family or arrest them and pay his salt to his duties. The film is directed by Shibu Mitra and produced by S K Kapur. The music is composed by Sonik Omi. The star cast includes Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini, Rajan Sippy, Amjad Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Raza Murad, Pran, Chandrashelhar and Shoma Anand.
