Kundan and Dhania live in a small village and fall in love. They are unable to make a decent living and thus decide to go to the city to find a lucrative employment as well as make money for their marriage. They both secure a job at a cinema hall. Dhania is obsessed and fascinated by movies and loves enacting songs and scenes. One day she puts on a song and dances away with Kundan not caring for anyone around her. Someone from the film fraternity watches her and is impressed by her talent and gives her a break in movies. He changes her name from Dhania to Sarita. Soon she becomes a successful actress and gets distant from Kundan, who feels left out and lonely. The film is directed by Meraj and produced by M Mallikharjuna Rao. The music is composed by R D Burman. The star cast includes Mithun Chakraborty, Kanhaiyala, Zarina Wahab, Dinesh Thakur, T P Jain, Paintal, Mac Mohan, Yunus Perwaiz and Jalal Agha.
