Anirudh is the principal of Navjivan Andhvidyalay school for the blind. He loves his job and thinks that the blind children don’t need sympathy but understanding and love. He however lives a very dark and secluded life with very little social interaction outside of the school. One day he hears a beautiful voice and follows it to a woman named Kavita. Kavita’s friend Manju who is also a common friend of Anirudh has a small
party where they both meet again. Soon Anirudh realizes it was the same voice he heard singing the other day. He offers her to volunteer singing and teaching the blind kids at the school. At first she is hesitant but accepts. At school, Anirudh and Kavita become close and fall in love. They are soon engaged. As time passes, Anirudh realizes that Kavita looks at the kids with sympathy and is merely working here to get rid of the emptiness in her life. This creates a lot of friction between the two. Later when Anirudh’s friend tells him about how unhappy he and his wife is, he breaks off his engagement with Kavita, without telling her why. Soon the two lovers realize how life has taken them to a different path and they are able to understand each other better than ever. The film is directed by Sai Paranjpe and produced by Basu Bhattacharya. The music is composed by Kanu Roy. The star cast includes Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Sudha Chopra, Arun Joglekar, Mohan Gokhale and Om Puri.
