Sharda lives a middle class lifestyle and meets Satya Prakash, who she falls in love with. Soon she finds out that she is expecting his child and hopes to get married to him soon. However one day she gets attacked by some goons and they tell her that her boyfriend has sold her to them and try to molest her. She gets away but Satya Prakash never shows up to marry her and thus she believes what the goons told her was true. She gives birth to a girl and names her Swati. They move to another town and Sharda starts working for Dr. Rajendra. Meanhwhile Swati grows up to be an outspoken and feisty girl who can defend herself quite well.

Soon she falls in love with an activist named Mohan. She asks Rajendra to marry her mother as there will be no one to care for her after she leaves home. Sharda thus marries Rajendra and moves in with him and his daughter Anandi. Turns out Anandi is expecting a child with her boyfriend. They all try to conceal this fact and get her married. They ask Swati to move out and not reveal her identity to anyone. Soon Satya Prakash comes back into Swati and Sharda’s life and things get even more complicated.

The film is directed by Kranthi Kumar and produced by L V Prasad. The music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal and the story is written by Kranthi Kumar. The star cast includes Shashi Kapoor, Vinod Mehra, Sharmila Tagore, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Madhuri Dixit, Akbar Khan, Raja Bundela, Chironjilal Rokadia, Dinesh Hingoo, Mahendra Sharma, Shribhagwan, Mahesh Raj, Shubha Khote, Sarika and Madhu Kapoor.
