Gopika lives a middle class life in Bangalore with her widowed mother. Gopika has a hidden aspiration to sing and knows she also has the talent for it. Her maternal uncle encourages her dream and decides to take her and her maid Lajjo to Bombay to try their luck with music companies there. However before their dream could even begin things take a drastic turn. Some goons try to molest her and her uncle goes missing. Left with no choice, Gopika begins to look for a place all by herself with little success. Then one day she meets Krishankumar and
agrees to share the room with him by pretending to be married. Soon enough Gopika and Krishankumar fall in love and get married. Just when their blissful life was about to take off, she learns that he was already married and also has a daughter. Distraught she leaves the house, but later returns and asks him to accept a son she had from a previous relationship. The film is directed by Zaheer D Lari and produced by S M Kothari. The music is composed by Usha Khanna. The star cast includes Vinod Mehra, Shabana Azmi, Madan Puri and Prema Narayan.
