Takht, directed and produced by Karan Johar, is aimed at being a period drama of epic cinematic magnitude trying to be set within the emotionally aesthetic context of the Mughal era. For all the summing up of the infamous enmity between two sons of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, Aurangzeb and Dara Shukoh under sibling rivalry, the film is wastewater ink-deep in the credible creativity of Sumit Roy and Hussain Haidry. Listed with an ensemble cast—Takht has Vicky Kaushal playing the character of Aurangzeb and Ranveer Singh playing that of Dara Shukoh—the fiercest battle between blood brothers vying for a throne comes out so evident. It brings into the limelight their precarious relationship, lust for power, and subsequent dramatic events. Kareena Kapoor Khan plays Jahanara Begum in the film, Alia Bhatt as Dilras Banu Begum, Janhvi Kapoor as Nadira Banu Begum, and Bhumi Pednekar as Roshanara Begum. Notwithstanding somebody of the stature of the legendary Anil Kapoor playing Shah Jahan, which adds a little gravitas to this period saga. After being announced in August 2019, shooting of Takht was delayed due to the pandemic; the initial date set, April 24, 2020, has been shifted. Karan Johar reassured fans that work on this movie would begin post the release of Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani. According to the director, this will be his most loved and highly planned venture, promising to treat people to a big and realistic view of this stormy phase of Indian history. The teaser for Takht was released on 24 April 2021, and it created quite a stir. There is not yet a trailer, but the glamour of the film has already managed to keep its fans with their eyes firmly set on further glimpses. Takht holds out the promise of a stunning visual and narrative masterpiece with themes of power, loyalty, and treachery in one of the oldest and most mighty dynasties in history. With its star-studded cast and its chorographed-to-perfection production, Takht is touted to be epic Bollywood fare for release soon.
