Teesri Kasam ( Third Vow) is a drama film released in 1966, directed by Basu Bhattacharya. A film that is based on the short story Mare Gaye Gulfam by the Hindi novelist Phanishwarnath Renu. Starring in the lead roles are Raj Kapoor and Waheeda Rehman, the hit pair of the Indian Cinema. The music is composed by Shankar-Jaikishan. Screen play is by Nabendu Ghosh with cinematography by Subrata Mitra.
The story is unconventional and portrays the rural India. A simpleton and naive bullock cart driver falls in love with a dancer Hirabai when he gives her a lift in his cart and gets to know that she is a popular dancer at the folk theatre Nautanki held in the village in Bihar region. He falls in love with her beauty. The film deals with the exploitation of women in the performing arts in these kind of folk theatres. The farmer sticks to his values and he ends up taking three vows.
