Thackeray a bilingual biographical film released in Marathi and Hindi languages is written and directed by Abhijit Panse based on the life of the Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray.
Starring in pivotal role as Bal Thackeray is Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Amrita Rao as his wife. The film released on 25th January 2019 marks the birthday of Bal Thackeray. The entire movie revolves around Bal Thackeray and his life covering almost all important aspects in his life.
Most of the film is shot in black and white as a flashback and brings you back to a gripping and positive performance by Nawazuddin. He does full justice to the powerful role and plays his character well.
The film begins with Thackeray leading a normal middle class life with a 9 to 5 job. He is disturbed by the fact that the people of Maharashtra, as he calls them Marathas are working as Labourers ( Majdoors) in their own state while he is not against the people of other states who come and throng themselves in Maharashtra and portray Marathas as the culprits. He decides to fight it out and starts a magazine which receives a huge response which in turn gives the birth to the Shiv Sena.
The film is a series of events as Rise of Maratha, the Barbari Masjid, Hindu Muslim riots. The Shiv Sena power is shown in the film subtly portraying the real Bal Thackeray as is.
The Marathi version film is said to be more satisfying as the Bala Saheb Thackeray’s dialogues in Marathi are powerful and is the icing on the cake. The film ends with a tag line to be continued…….. and is probably expected to be released in Part 2. Will have to wait and watch.
