Balu is the only child of Chandrasekhar (VS Raghavan), a wealthy man. Balu has an extravagant spending habit and exhibits erratic, violent behaviour. Concerned about him, his father sends Balu to work for his buddy Gangadharan (Senthamarai) in his village on the condition that he not divulge that he is Chandrasekhar's son. Balu gradually adjusts to country life, picks up the habit of working hard, and forges strong bonds with Gangadharan and his family. He starts to like the haughty affluent girl Sumathi (Madhavi) during this time. She initially makes fun of him, but soon she loves him back.
