The pompous and brash son of wealthy parents Chidambaram (V.K. Ramasamy) and Annapoorani (Manorama) is Arun (Rajinikanth). Arun frequently fights with Chitra (Poornima Jayaram), a charming but aggressive hotel dancer, and eventually they fall in love. Arun confronts his father to find out the truth after a hitman sent by his enemies named Kali attempts to kill him in his home one night and Chidambaram appears to recognise the hitman and allow him to flee. Arun learns from Chidambaram that he is not his biological son and that Arun's true father sent him and Kali to kill the young Arun and his mother years ago.
