Vijay is a kind-hearted businessman who runs a small trade of agarbatti. Once he wraps up the business he turns into a theif who steals from the rich and is using the money to build a school for the poor so they can become doctors, engineers, etc and study for free. The cops are always on the look out for the man stealing crores from the rich but are unable to nab Vijay. Roshni who is in love with Vijay comes to know about his secret life and confronts him. He then tells her how his brother and mom committed suicide as he couldn’t pay the donations for medical school. He is arrested and sent to many years in prison. When he is released, he sees the school open and soon he marries Roshni.
The movie is directed by Mahesh Bhatt and produced by Elu Arvind. The music is composed by Anu Malik and A R Rehman and the lyrics are written by Rahat Indori, Indeevar and Rajan Khera. The screenplay is written by Anees Bazmee. The star cast includes Chiranjeevi, Juhi Chawla, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Paresh Rawal, Deepak Tijori, Laxmikant Berde, Heera Rajagopal and Sulbha Deshpande.
