The story of this movie revolves around the various people who live and earn a mean of living at a traffic signal in Mumbai. The few minutes of wait at the red light of a traffic signal attracts many like eunuchs, beggars, people selling flowers, books, etc. They all earn their livelihood and pay their allegiance or hafta to Silsila, played by Kunal Khemu, who offers them protection in return. He reports to a mid-level don called Jaffar and he in turn reports to a bigger don named Haji Bhaijaan.
Silsila then meets a pretty girl called Rani, played by Neetu Chandra who comes at the signal to sell ethnic clothes. They both get attracted to each other. Meanwhile Silsila has no idea that Haji Bhaijaan is using him simply as a pawn for his larger plans. Silsila unknowingly takes all the orders given to him obediently until one day, when everything comes to a standstill. His world comes crashing down when he is falsely accused of murder, extortion and bribery. The traffic signal itself comes to be wiped out forever. Silsila now has to take matters in his own hands get out of it all alive.
The movie is directed by Madhur Bhandarkar and produced by Percept Pictures Company and Madhur Bhandarkar. The music is composed by Shamir Tandon.
