Tumhare Liye a 1978 film by Basu Chatterjee, starring Sanjeev Kumar in a dual role along with Vidya Sinha and Ashok Kumar in the lead roles.
Gauri (Vidya Sinha) and Prakash (Sanjeev Kumar) get intimate and fall in love. Prakash is actually engaged to Renuka (Neelam Mehra) after their alliance is arranged and approved by the parents. But he chooses Gouri and the couple marry. After marriage, Gouri starts behaving strangely and has to be hospitalized. The truth surfaces when their past lives come in forefront. Gouri and Prakash in their past birth were lovers and Renuka was Kalavati (Neelam Mehra) In the previous birth, who loved Gangadhar Upadhyay(Sanjeev Kumar). In her previous birth Gouri had got pregnant and had taken ill and died because of Kalavati’s interference. Gauri can be cured in the present birth only after Prakash can survive and someone who loves him should sacrifice her life. Renuka gets ready to kill Gauri instead so she can get Prakash to herself. The film ends with a twist and inspired many others to follow the story on re-birth.
