The plot of Udayon centres around 75-year-old Suranadu Kunju and his son Papoyi (both played by Mohanlal). Kunju believes that the heartbeat of the earth resides in the soil, not in mathematics. His views on the land and agrarianism are sound, but his conviction that farmers and farming are more essential and superior is incorrect.
