Veer-Zaara is a 2004 romantic drama film directed and co-produced by Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra. Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta in the cross country star crossed lovers. Veer is from Indian Air Force while Zaara is a Pakistani woman who hails from a rich political family of Lahore. Their love story is supported by special appearance from Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini, Anupam Kher, Manoj Bajpayee, Divya Dutta, Akhilendra Mishra.
The love story is set in India and Pakistan and reviews unsolved cases pertaining to Indian Prisoners as a goodwill gesture. Saamiya Siddiqui(Rani Mukherji) a beautiful aspiring lawyer is given the charge as a defense for her first case of an Indian Air Force Officer who is in the prison who has not spoken to any one for 22 years in the prison. Veer(Shah Rukh Khan) opens up for the first time to Saamiya while he narrates his love story of 22 years ago and his uncle Choudhary Sumer Singh(Amitabh Bachchan) and his aunt Saraswati Kaur(Hema Malini). How he meets Zaara in India who had travelled secretly to India to fulfil her dying grandmother’s wish of her ashes being flown in Sutlej river among her ancestors, ends up meeting the handsome Veer Pratap Singh (Shah Rukh Khan). They fall in love though she is engaged to Raza Sharazi(Manoj Bajpayee). Veer quits Air Force to bring back his lady love from Pakistan due to which he goes through a series of hurdles, landing himself in for the life imprisonment cunningly carved and planned by Raza Sharazi and frames him as an Indian Spy.
Saamiya fights his case and meets Zaara who thinks that Veer is dead .Saamiya help the lovers to reunite after a battle in the court and Zaara giving the true story about Veer’s identity .
