“Vettaiyan” is an upcoming 2024 Tamil action drama film written and directed by T. J. Gnanavel and produced by Subaskaran Allirajah's Lyca Productions. The film stars Rajinikanth as Athiyan, with Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, and Rana Daggubati playing supporting roles.

"Athiyan", a Superintendent of Police in Kanyakumari, is tough when it comes to dealing with crime. His most recent case is that of a teacher, Saranya, who gives information on school drug abuse. On her tip-off, Athiyan eliminates a drug peddler in an encounter killing, but his actions make the Human Rights Commission sit up and take notice. Before things die down, “Saranya” is brutally killed in Chennai, and the state erupts into a protest seeking justice.

The first investigation unfairly blames “Guna”, a software engineer, who is subsequently murdered by “Athiyan” in a confrontation. “Justice Sathyadev”, however, establishes Guna's innocence, leaving Athiyan stunned and filled with remorse. Convinced that the true offender must be found, Athiyan reopens the case with his team, which consists of “Patrick, Roopa, and Harish”. Their investigation unravels a network of corruption involving “Natraj Shanmugam”, the proprietor of Nat Academy, an educational scam. Saranya and Guna had exposed his huge fraud, and that resulted in her murder.

As threats pile up, Athiyan collects evidence with his wife Thara, an influencer on social media. He brings to light Natraj's education scam and how the police are in on it, and Nat Academy gets banned. Following a nail-biting confrontation, Natraj is finally arrested and given life imprisonment. Athiyan, learning his lesson from earlier mistakes, learns to leave his clash methods behind and opt for justice instead of violence.

“Vettaiyan” is a gritty thriller that combines action, suspense, and social themes. Rajinikanth proves to be a towering presence on screen, while Amitabh Bachchan and Fahadh Faasil provide depth to the story. With gripping narration, authoritative action, and robust moral values, “Vettaiyan” is a must-see crime drama.
