Sumitra falls in love with Sudershan and decides to marry him, without knowing about his past and current businesses. Meanwhile she is expecting their first child and both are blissful. But things turn ugly when she learns the truth about her husband’s deeds and is mighty angry with him. Things turn so bad that she ends up killing him in cold blood. She then delivers a baby boy named Anand and her father in order to save her from the shame tells her that the baby was still born. Meanwhile he gives away the baby to his servant who comes to know that his own wife has delivered a girl and died. Sumitra’s father too dies a few days later. The servant then hands the baby named Anu, to Sumitra and she mistakes it for her own child.

Years pass and Anu and Anand have grown up and study in the same college. Meanwhile at their college function Sumitra is the chief guest and gets photographed with Anu as well as Anand. Anand’s foster mother tells him that she is the one who murdered his father. He swears revenge and promises to put her behind bars. The film is directed by Prabhat Roy and produced by S Mazumdar. The music is composed by R D Burman. The star cast includes Mithun Chakraborty, Rakhee Gulzar, Rati Agnihotri, Suresh Oberoi, Ranjeet, Amjad Khan and Iftekhar.
