While filmmaker S S Rajamouli made Pan-India films hot property with Baahubali, it was music composer A R Rahman who bridged the gap with his music. When the Madhoo starrer film Roja released in 1992, people took notice of Rahman’s incredible music. It was not just successful in Tamil but it’s Hindi version blew everyone’s mind as well. Director Mani Ratnam had once said, “The film was called Roja, it was set in Kashmir and the music that he played had the feel of that winter — that cold of that place. So, I was not worried if somebody would get it. I was getting it. Also, I thought it was absolutely fantastic and it was just going to lift my visuals.”

So people saw A R Rahman’s success as a fluke. They thought he wouldn’t be able to do again what he did with Roja but he proved them wrong with Ram Gopal Varma’s Rangeela. The director had once said, “His tunes were so original in his interpretation of the emotion of a situation that a conventional ear will take time to let it sink in.” The Music composer is the only Indian composer to have won a BAFTA, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. Today he has composed music not just for South films, but original compositions for Hindi movies like Guru, Highway, OK Jaanu and many more.
