Akshay Kumar, who is otherwise known for his commercial roles on screen, also specializes in playing real life characters in his movies. Be it Rustom (2016), Airlift (2016), Pad Man (2018) or Kesari (2019), the 55-year-old has often attempted to bring stories of real-life heroes to the big screen.

Continuing the trend, Akshay will now be seen playing (late) mining engineer Sardar Jaswant Singh Gill in his next biopic produced by Pooja Entertainment. Late Sardar Jaswant Singh Gill was an engineer who led one of India's biggest rescue missions in 1989 when he saved 65 miners from a coal mine. To commemorate this day, November 16 was marked as 'Rescue Day'.

India's Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi took to his Twitter handle to celebrate the day and wrote, "Remembering Late Sardar Jaswant Singh Gill ji for his heroic role in rescuing 65 workers from a flooded coal mine, in 1989. We are proud of our #CoalWarriors who battle everyday against the odds to assure India's energy security." Akshay Kumar soon replied on the tweet saying that it is an honour to portray the hero on screen and it is a story like no other! Akshay Kumar shared a short teaser on his Insta handle saying that he is coming up with something new and fans are now speculating that he was referring to the same project.
