This news will bring much hope and relief to movie theater owners and distributors, as Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced that cinema halls in Maharashtra will re-open from October 22. The CM posted the news on his official Twitter handle that read, “Chief Minister Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray has announced that cinemas and theaters in the state will be allowed to open after October 22 in compliance with health norms. Work is underway to prepare a detailed SOP in this regard and it will be announced soon.”

With the covid cases seen rapidly declining over the past few months, the Maharashtra government has taken the decision to slowly open up public places like schools and places of worship. The SOP has to however determine weather cinema halls will operate at full capacity or half. With films like Akshay Kumar starrer Sooryavanshi, Ajay Devgn starrer Maidaan, etc., waiting for theatrical releases, the makers can now work out a date on when to finally welcome audiences to watch their films!
