The festive fervour of Durga Puja 2023 has spread across Mumbai, and it's been a grand celebration. The North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja pandal, an annual gathering organized by veteran actor Deb Mukerji, paternal uncle of actresses Rani Mukerji and Kajol, as well as director Ayan Mukerji's father, saw a beautiful blend of devotion and glamour this Sunday.
Rani Mukerji visited the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja pandal on Sunday evening, attending the Ashtami Sandhi Puja. The actress radiated elegance in her olive green saree adorned with beautiful traditional jewellery, complemented by strappy sleeves. Her traditional shakha pola and matching bangles added a touch of cultural authenticity to her attire.
During the Ashtami Sandhi Puja, Rani Mukerji showcased her Bengali heritage by performing the traditional Dhunuchi Naach, a graceful dance ritual, alongside her cousin sister, Tanishaa Mukerji, and the talented choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant.
Adding to the festivities, Rani was also spotted dancing joyously with Vaibhavi and other enthusiastic participants at the Durga Puja pandal.
The spirit of Dhunuchi Naach transcended beyond Rani Mukerji as well. Just a day earlier, on Saturday, the charismatic Sushmita Sen graced a Durga Puja pandal in Mumbai with her presence. She, along with her elder daughter Renee Sen, left everyone spellbound with their enchanting Dhunuchi Naach performance. The video of their captivating dance had gone viral, captivating the hearts of many.
Beyond her stunning dance performance, Rani Mukerji has another reason to celebrate. Recently, the versatile actress marked a milestone, completing 27 years in the Indian film industry. Reflecting on her journey, she remarked, "It doesn't feel like 27 years for sure! Looking back at the moment right now, I feel that I have just debuted in a film a few years back! I’m still as hungry as I was in my first film. Just to think of Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, my first film and what I learnt in that film, is something that I will never forget. What I didn't realize as a newcomer then, was the magical world of cinema that I was getting into because I wasn't the regular wide-eyed person, who wanted to join cinema. It was something more like I was asked to do, told to do. So I got into it, and I did not understand much."
In the future of her work, fans can anticipate Rani Mukerji's return to the silver screen, possibly reprising her iconic role as Shivani Shivaji Roy, a relentless cop who confronts diabolical antagonists in each instalment of the Mardaani franchise. Talking about her experience with the franchise, Rani shared, "When I did Mardaani 2, I was quite nervous because I had never done a sequel before. I was like how will it happen? Because I leave my characters behind each time a film gets over, and I don’t know if I will be able to reprise that part again. With Mardaani 2, I was surprised that I enjoyed reprising the part. So now I have tasted blood. So now I want to reprise it again in 3."
